Protoclone

Protoclone is a humanoid robot developed by Clone Robotics, a Polish robotics company. It is designed with a musculoskeletal structure that closely mimics human anatomy, featuring 206 polymer bones, artificial muscle fibers, and a pneumatic system for movement. The robot incorporates over 200 degrees of freedom, more than 1,000 Myofibers (artificial muscles), and 500 sensors to facilitate complex motion and interaction with its environment.

Protoclone is equipped with a 500-watt electric pump, which serves as its power source, and four cameras for visual processing. Additionally, it has 320 pressure-sensitive sensors and 70 inertial sensors to assist with spatial awareness and balance. The robot’s skeletal and muscular system is modeled to replicate human biomechanics, with artificial muscles attached to key bone structures to enable natural movement. Clone Robotics has stated that the final version of Protoclone will utilize hydraulics instead of the current pneumatic system.

The robot is intended for household applications, with potential use cases including cooking, cleaning, and performing other domestic tasks. Clone Robotics envisions Protoclone as a step toward highly functional humanoid robots capable of operating in human environments. The company has previously developed other biomimetic robotic components, such as a robotic hand and humanoid torso, which contributed to Protoclone’s design.

Protoclone is part of a growing field of humanoid robotics, alongside other projects such as Figure’s humanoid robots, which have been tested in automotive manufacturing, and Agility RoboticsDigit, designed for warehouse automation. Clone Robotics plans to offer Protoclone for preorder, although no pricing or commercial availability details have been announced. The robot represents ongoing advancements in biomimetic robotics, with the goal of creating human-like machines for various practical applications.
